Migrants, generally perceived as a threat to host areas, are useful for local development. In the sub-prefecture of Hiré, observation reveals that the villages which have welcomed immigrants are experiencing “a fairly advanced level of development” and have become more attractive than those which are relatively mono-ethnic, notwithstanding the relocations they have experienced. in their history. Furthermore, despite the social differentiation to which migrants are subject, they participate in the development of these host villages. On the basis of these findings, the study aims to highlight the social factors explaining the development of multi-ethnic villages compared to mono-ethnic villages in this locality. Using a qualitative approach and content analysis, the study shows that the development of multi-ethnic villages can be explained by the socio-economic and political autonomy enjoyed by migrants. Specifically, it reveals that the progress of multi-ethnic villages is linked to: 1) the history of the founding of these villages; 2) the process of social differentiation to the social integration of migrants; 3) and political governance at work.
