Abstract

The objective of this study is to identify the factors influencing teacher engagement in private higher education institutions and universities of the city of Bouaké. It is a qualitative study based on an interpretivist epistemological approach. To provide answers to the research question, thirteen (13) semi-structured interviews were conducted with Directors of Studies at private higher education institutions and universities in Bouaké. The interviews revealed five (5) main factors determining teacher engagement in these institutions: the establishment of communication frameworks for teachers, the Director of Studies' empathy for teachers, the creation of a supportive social environment, the regular payment of teachers' salaries, and the Director of Studies' rigor. The results obtained align with the foundations of Blau's (1964) social exchange theory.
